Following the retirement of long-standing Managing Director Colin Tirel, Steve Thomson took over the management of the British Arburg subsidiary in Warwick with effect from 1 December 2025. The highly experienced professional was Sales Manager for Arburg Ltd. since September 2024 and is committed to serving customers in the important markets of Great Britain and Ireland as Managing Director.

Steve Thomson began his career in the plastics industry in 1991 as an apprentice plastics engineer at a household appliance manufacturer. After attending Burton Technical College, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Polymer Science from Coventry University. Various professional positions, including in the automotive, medical and peripheral equipment sectors, also took him across Europe working for employers in Baden-Baden and Munich. Steve now has 33 years of industry experience, with 27 of those spent within the Plastic Injection moulding and tooling technology.

Stability and expertise for the British and Irish markets

Steve Thomson values Arburg as a strong machine manufacturer and important player in the industry: “The goal is to remain at the top level in the rapidly changing markets of the United Kingdom and Ireland in the future”. The new Managing Director of Arburg Ltd. has a team of 26 employees at his disposal. He has nothing but praise for his predecessor: “Colin Tirel is a titan of the British plastics industry who gave me his full support during the transition phase and from whom I was able to learn a great deal”.

As seen across Europe, the British and Irish markets have some headwinds. “Nevertheless, injection moulding manufacturers continue to value quality, durability and stable relationships — all things for which Arburg is known and appreciated,” Steve Thomson is convinced. There is no doubt that long-standing customers want to continue their successful cooperation with Arburg. New customers are increasingly turning to the expert technical support and expertise of the machine supplier with decades of know-how.

Fit for the future: Allrounder Trend and turnkey sector

Steve Thomson sees an even stronger focus on the medical technology and packaging industries in the British Isles in the future and has confidence in Arburg as one of the world’s leading machine manufacturers: “The Allrounder Trend machines have attracted considerable interest since their world premiere at K 2025. I believe that our markets will shift towards standard electric machines. We also have great opportunities and successes in the turnkey sector”. The new Managing Director wants to continue to raise awareness and visibility in the UK and Ireland. “I want to generate enthusiasm for the brand and our technology. With my team in the UK, I am well on the way to achieving this”.
