AMB machine debuts Walter unveils two world premiers for tool production

Automated tool grinding and compact metrology took centre stage at Walter’s AMB presentation. The new Helitronic Fusion combines grinding with integrated workpiece and tool automation, while the Helicheck Compact measures standard and macro tools.

From September 15–19, 2026, Walter presented two world premieres in tool manufacturing at the AMB in Stuttgart: The Helitronic Fusion and the Helicheck Compact. At the booth of United Machining Solutions, the company unveiled the machines to the public for the first time. Visitors had the opportunity to experience the machines up close, talk to experts and gain valuable insights for the future of their manufacturing.

“The Helitronic Fusion is a tool grinding machine with fully integrated automation for both workpieces and tools, setting new standards in terms of manufacturing quality, efficiency, and footprint,” said Silas Junger, Product Manager for Grinding at Walter.

Production and regrinding of rotationally symmetric tools in a single setup — even with complex geometries. The Helitronic Fusion combines a compact footprint with generous workpiece capacity (max. grinding length 380 mm, max. tool diameter 260 mm), offering high flexibility for current and future applications. Fully integrated automation ensures short non-productive times and a consistently efficient process flow. The vibration-damping mineral cast base and the symmetrical axis design ensure highly precise grinding results even with highly demanding workpieces. Thanks to modern Fanuc drive technology, high energy and operational efficiency, and intuitive IoT-ready software, the machine remains future-proof and can be smoothly integrated into digital production environments.

“With a measurement uncertainty of EUX,MPE = 1.4 + (L/300), the Helicheck Compact delivers reliable results for modern manufacturing requirements. The block construction principle enables precise measurement results and high repeatability in incident and back light measurements, allowing even complex tool geometries to be captured and measured accurately and reliably. The Walter Metrology Centre provides a powerful, intuitive software platform for efficient measurement processes,” explained Bernd Schwennig, Strategic Product Manager Measuring Technology at Walter.

The Helicheck Compact offers a precise measurement solution for tools in the standard and macro ranges. It provides a cost-effective entry point into professional metrology and delivers measurement quality based on the tried-and-tested design of the Helicheck Pro/Plus, whilst deliberately focusing on the essential functions. Thanks to a wide range of interfaces and the full range of functions offered by the Walter Metrology Centre (WMC), it can be seamlessly integrated into existing workflows.
