Six-axis robotic motion offers greater freedom when printing large thermoplastic tools, moulds and components. CMS will demonstrate its Krearob system at Formnext 2026, alongside the gantry-based Kreator A3, showing two approaches to flexible large-format additive manufacturing.

CMS has announced that its six-axis Krearob robotic system for large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) will make its Formnext debut in Frankfurt this year in Hall 12.0, Stand D51. Introduced earlier this year, the system produces large thermoplastic tools, moulds and components with complex geometries. According to CMS, it combines optimised material deposition with consistent quality.

The company reports material and weight savings of up to 80 per cent compared with conventional manufacturing technologies. With its high productivity, Krearob is intended for demanding applications in aerospace, automotive and industrial manufacturing. The system integrates CMS’s proprietary extrusion unit, dedicated slicing software and a human-machine interface (HMI), allowing manufacturers to control programming, simulation and printing through a single platform.

The latest addition to CMS’s additive manufacturing portfolio, Krearob will operate in live demonstrations on the company’s stand throughout the exhibition.

CMS will also present its Kreator A3 industrial large-format 3D printing system. The flagship system uses screw extrusion to produce large thermoplastic components, including tools and moulds for composites processing. With a material throughput of up to 30 kg/h and the ability to print vertically, horizontally and at a 45° angle, it offers manufacturers a flexible and potentially more resource-efficient alternative to conventional manufacturing processes.

“Manufacturers are increasingly looking for greater flexibility and efficiency when producing complex components. Formnext gives us the ideal opportunity to show how CMS is responding to these requirements,” says Marino Chiappa, Division Director, Advanced Materials & Plastic.

“While Krearob meets manufacturers’ needs in applications requiring multi-axis positioning and robotic flexibility, our gantry-based Kreator A3 system takes a different approach to flexible manufacturing. It is particularly suited to large-format printing applications within a defined working envelope.

“With one of the industry’s broadest LFAM portfolios — from standalone 3D printing systems to hybrid and dual-gantry systems and robotic solutions — these two solutions demonstrate that we can offer manufacturers the right technology for their production requirements, rather than expecting them to adapt to a single manufacturing process,” Chiappa concludes.
