Automation Mazak launches CP-450: the fast route to productive pallet automation

Machine tool company Yamazaki Mazak has launched the CP-450, a fully integrated 12-pallet automation solution designed to help manufacturers maximise the value from their machine investment through dependable unattended production.

Developed for selected Mazak machining centres, including the CV5-500, CV5-700, VCN-500, VCN-600 and Variaxis C-600 machine models, the CP-450 extends machine productivity beyond attended operation while reducing the complexity traditionally associated with automation projects.

Designed for high-mix, low-to-medium volume production environments, the system supports manufacturers looking to increase spindle utilisation, create additional manufacturing capacity and reduce dependence on skilled labour without introducing a standalone automation control system.

Rather than treating automation as a separate engineering project, the CP-450 combines machine and automation into one integrated production platform, with machine control integration, a single operator experience, simplified commissioning and one Mazak support route.

The compact system uses 12 steel pallets measuring 404 x 350 mm and supports a maximum workpiece mass of 150 kg. It can accommodate workpieces up to 450 mm in diameter, with maximum workpiece height depending on the machine tool model.

Operators manage pallet sequencing through an intuitive step-by-step interface integrated into the familiar Mazatrol Smooth control, or via an optional dual monitor. This unified environment is designed to support faster adoption, reduce the need for specialist automation expertise and make unattended production easier to manage with confidence.

Integrated sequencing software gives operators clear visibility of pallet status, while fast, precise zero-point pallet clamping, servo motors on all axes and a blank pallet option for bespoke fixtures support practical, flexible palletised production.

For customers, this means a simpler route to increasing output from a new or existing Mazak machine tool investment, with dependable unattended production, reduced implementation effort and clearer accountability throughout the automation lifecycle.

With a compact 5.8 m² floor space, the CP-450 is suited to manufacturers seeking improved machine utilisation and additional capacity without a proportional increase in labour. The system also retains manual access to the work area through the machine’s front door when required, supporting the flexibility needed in high-mix production.

The CP-450 can be supplied with new compatible Mazak machine tools or retrofitted to selected existing installations, helping manufacturers increase productive machining hours and improve return on machine investment without moving to a larger, more complex automation system.
