Keeping the focus on high-performance milling

The biggest new launch for FFG Europe will be a horizontal milling centre from Jobs. Dubbed Thor 200, the centre has a high-speed mobile column, equipped with a vertical stroke of Y=4,000 mm. Target applications include composite machining in the aerospace industry, especially concerning the delicate preparation process in the assembly of wings, fuselage panels and similar subgroups.

The centre features the latest generation twist milling head from Jobs and has an in-built suction system that can carry out so-called zero-pollution machining operations, which are prescribed by many aerospace firms. The machine can also cut multi-layer materials such as carbon, titanium and aluminium, being able to automatically sense the materials and thicknesses and adjust cutting parameters accordingly.

Jobs will also show the medium-sized milling centre Ever 7, with a mobile crossbeam for machining with 3/3+2/4/5 axes. The Ever 7 features high chip removal capacity, which is ensured by the crossbeam structure, as well as rapid acceleration and speeds of up to 40 m/min. The machine is equipped with the universal mechanically driven milling head Kosmo, particularly suitable for high-removal rate operations and with the T3K head with 27,000 rpm electrospindle for high-speed semi-finishing and finishing machining. This configuration is particularly aimed at applications in aerospace and mould- and die-making.

The Sachmann brand will use EMO Hannover to launch the Thora RT, a medium-power and medium-size milling centre with “T” configuration and integrated rotary table. This machine is mainly designed for subcontractors, and is characterised by very reasonable prices. Flexibility, reliability, accuracy, high chip removal capacity and cost effectiveness are the project drivers. Special focus has been placed on viewing the machine as a production unit strongly aimed at reducing hourly costs.

Thora RT is available in two configurations: “basic”, conceived for mechanical applications with universal head and maximum working speed of 24 m/min; and “speed” with a continuous 5-axis head, a maximum working speed of 45 m/min and top dynamic performance.
