How much cooling does a threaded part need before it can leave the mould? According to Cumsa, its collapsible core can release parts at higher mould temperatures than an unscrewing system, potentially shortening the cycle.

Cumsa’s Collapsible Core uses six, eight or 12 segments to release injection-moulded parts with complex internal threads and undercuts. Each core is engineered to suit the part geometry and available mould space. It can accommodate undercuts measuring up to 23% of the expanded core diameter.

The range covers diameters from 6 to 400 mm, with round, oval, square and rectangular configurations available. Cumsa supplies the core as a ready-to-install assembly to reduce machining and fitting work. Stackable retaining rings save space inside the mould, while integrated safety stops keep the segments from touching when the core is fully open.

Cumsa quotes target service lives of up to 500,000 cycles for the standard version and up to one million cycles for the diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated version.
