The European manufacturing industry is increasingly recognising the potential of humanoid robots, particularly as the region faces growing labour shortages. From Schaeffler’s global deployment plans to logistics trials at Siemens and pilot projects at BMW, manufacturers are beginning to assess how quickly the technology can be introduced into production. Tool and mould makers face similar recruitment challenges and are also exploring possible applications.

Movies such as RoboCop, The Terminator and I, Robot introduced broad audiences to fictional machines combining physical strength with human-like intelligence. Humanoid robots are now becoming one of the most visible manifestations of a much broader technological development known as physical AI.

Physical AI enables machines to perceive their surroundings, process information and act autonomously in the physical world. It combines sensor technology, decision-making models, simulation-trained behaviours and adaptive control. Humanoid robots give these capabilities a physical form designed to move, grip objects and navigate environments built for people. On the shop floors of tool and mould makers, machine tending and materials logistics are among the first potential applications.
