The system supplier for machine tools, Haimer, is a premium partner and supporter of the Augsburger Panther hockey team in the German Hockey League. The company took this opportunity to demonstrate the performance capabilities of its tools and tool holders by creating a model panther. The CAM specialists at Open Mind took on the challenging programming task using their Hypermill software.

From 4 to 9 October 2021, DMG Mori will be presenting their latest developments in two locations at once: on the company's exhibition stand in Hall 1 and in its EMO Milan showroom, where nine high-technology machine tools will be exhibited, five of them as automated production solutions. UK — Jaguar Land Rover has started manufacturing its own press tools in-house for the first time following a £ 1.7 million investment at its Halewood plant. The new facility will now produce the tools required to make body panels for future Jaguar Land Rover models globally.

The travelling-column machining centre is available in 3- or 4-axis versions with a B-axis and is designed for heavy chip removal and precision cutting of large and heavy parts.

In the production of variants, complete quality inspection of all parts is a necessity. To reduce inspection efforts, the research project “Approve” was launched to develop a practicable procedure.

Germany — At the Machine Tool Laboratory WZL of RWTH Aachen University, a new research project for process optimisation and quality enhancement in massive forming has been launched. The project examines whether machine learning algorithms can be used to automatically adapt to instabilities and thus reduced rejects in the forming process.

Italy — Bologna based company Vetimec supplies the international automotive industry and foundries with moulds, including injection moulds. Since die-sinking EDM dominates the production of these moulds, efficiency depends on the production of the graphite electrodes. With the changeover to special milling tools from Hufschmied, Vetimec can now machine graphite 30 percent faster and 20 percent more economically.

EDM machines offer precision accuracy, however, the process can be challenging. It is vital that the machine's systems are equally efficient, especially it's fluid management and filter efficiency. This is where magnetic filters come in as it is capable of filtering fine-particles and micron-sized particles from dielectric fluids in EDM machines which makes sure that the fluid is clean and protected from contamination.

Germany — During the second quarter 2021, the German machine tool industry registered a 103 percent increase compared to previous year's figures. Both, orders from Germany and abroad rose significantly.
