A new Cadenas platform offers engineers, purchasers and architects search functions to find and download millions of 3D CAD and BIM models from manufacturer catalogues.
Software provider of parts management and electronic catalogues, Cadenas, says its new platform, a visual search engine called 3Dfind.it, opens unique search functions for engineers, purchasers and architects to find and download millions of 3D CAD and BIM models from manufacturer catalogues available worldwide.
When one is looking for information, search engines are often the first point of contact, today. Engineers and planners looking for a desired component reach the limits rather quickly on conventional search engines, which are normally too general, nor do they lead to the desired goal namely because popular search engines are not focused on the technical sector.
On the newly developed visual search engine, 3Dfind.it, professionals are able to find 3D CAD and BIM models from hundreds of manufacturer catalogues, which include architecture, engineering, electrical engineering and electronic products. The search results are digital product data of components that are made available by the manufacturers for engineering, design and planning, which can be downloaded. Many catalogues offer over 150 different native and neutral CAD formats, like Autodesk Revit, Nemetschek All Plan, Archi CAD, Autodesk Inventor, NX, Solid Edge, PTC Creo Parametric, Auto CAD, Catia or Solidworks.
On average, engineers and architects spend 27% of their time searching for information. 3Dfind.it was developed to significantly reduce search times and to increase efficiency in engineering and the planning in building. With intelligent functions that go far beyond the mere full-text search, the platform enables smart finding instead of searching.
Search functions for users include:
- Parametric Text Search: High-performance full-text searches that offer proposals and corrections and logical operations (for e.g., allowing D < 12)
- 3D Shape Search: Finding geometrically similar parts based on a reference component
- 2D Sketch Search: Receiving suitable results by sketching a simple 2D drawing
- 2D Photo Search: Finding similar components by uploading a photo of a component
- Colour Search: Filtering components within the parts library based on the colour
Searches in the pipeline that will be made available soon are Feature/Topology Search to find components that have the same properties and dimensions; Search by Category like DIN / ISO / eClass that filters components according to their categories and Class 2.0 Search/Reverse Search that allows one to find a match of an existing component in the components library.
