German tool manufacturer Inovatools has introduced a special high-gloss finish for high-end milling cutters and drills, which significantly improves their performance and extends their service life by double-digit percentages. This treatment results in ultra-smooth functional and secondary surfaces.

The new finish process improves chip removal from the machining zone due to reduced friction, and allows for more efficient heat dissipation. This helps to mitigate temperature increases on the cutting tool and the workpiece, as well as reduce material buildup and galling on the cutting edge. The finish is applicable to both coated and non-coated tools.

Dennis Marz, head of product management and R&D at Inovatools, stated that the high-gloss finished tools can operate at higher feed rates and cutting speeds, have longer service lives, and increase overall productivity. He also noted that even small batches can now be cost-effectively machined, enhancing process reliability.
