Accelerating levels of interest in AM
“We are seeing accelerating levels of interest in AM,” says Renishaw’s Stewart Lane. “But it is not just about the machine. We want to educate our customers on that technology and try to keep the cost of entry low.” Renishaw offers a total solution for metal additive manufacturing, from systems, metal powders, ancilliaries and software through to an expert advice and support service. Key drivers for the continuing growth of the company’s AM business are the medical automotive and aerospace industries. The latter is the largest industry sector in the UK which is the second largest aerospace manufacturer after the US, Lane said.
Renishaw is currently creating a network of global AM solutions centres to introduce customers to this technology. “Before making an investment in metal AM technology, customers can trial Renishaw systems to fully evaluate the suitability for their products,” Pockett explained.
Touring the new £20m innovation centre at New Mills, Wotton-under-Edge, UK, certainly leaves you impressed. The 153,000 sq ft facility not only hosts as many as 40 meeting rooms, but features many light-filled open-space offices. Enough room for inspiring innovative ideas (14-18% of sales are invested in R&D).
The modern showroom features many of Renishaw’s products, and on this special occasion the company was showcasing its new developments, which will be exhibited together with Renishaw’s extensive range of metrology and AM equipment at EMO 2015.
