Doosan S. Korean machine tool maker makes good on growth goals
ETMM Publisher Ken Fouhy travelled to Asia to witness the latest introductions and equipment upgrades from South Korea’s Doosan, which is rapidly ramping up production.
At its recent in-house show in Changwon, South Korea, machine tool supplier Doosan Infracore unveiled 63 new and modified machines and a revamped look for all of its future machines. About 3,500 customers and dealers attended the three-day event, some 400 of whom came from Europe.
Multi-tasking with latest generation of machining centres
A new generation of multi-tasking machines, dubbed the Puma SMX line, attracted the most attention from the visitors. The first two models in the mid-sized machine range were on display, featuring the new Doosan livery of white, blue and grey with extra large viewing windows.
The first SMX machines launched have a maximum turning diameter of 660 mm and feature a 12,000 rpm milling spindle with X/Y/Z travels of 620/260/1,585 mm. The company said further variations will follow for both bigger workpieces in 2014 and smaller workpieces in 2015.
