Germany - EDM and HSC specialist OPS Ingersoll hosted an Open House last month which attracted nearly 200 visitors from around 100 companies. The event featured a variety of presentations from long-standing OPS Ingersoll partner companies, covering the whole process chain from design to the finished product.
Targeted at customers within the tool and mould making industry, OPS Ingersoll's Open House was not only designed to showcase the company's HSC milling and EDM machines and their capabilities, but focused very much on the whole process chain together with cooperation partner Mitsubishi Electric Europe (EDM wire machinery), metrology suppliers, CAD/CAM companies, workholding and CNC specialists as well as EDM wire manufacturers, cutting tool companies and clamping and spindle manufacturers from all around Europe.
According to OPS, visitors mainly came from Germany, but some travelled from Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Protugal as well as the US and Canada. The latter is renowned for its ice hockey team and the Canadians turned out to be among the best players in the competition where visitors were encouraged to score some goals to enter the draw for tickets for a match of the "Kölner Haie" in Cologne.
Matthias Schmidt, head of sales at OPS Ingersoll, commented that customers were very impressed with the event, especially with the presentation of the integrated solutions in terms of Industry 4.0 - from CAD/CAM to milling, programming and automation.
Moreover, Dr Boos from WZL RWTH Aachen talked about the future and challenges of the global tool, die and mould making industry, an gave an outlook of the worldwide automotive industry.
