US manufacturing resurging

ETMM: Obviously, US manufacturing is resurging. You have recently announced that the upcoming NPE exhibition will be the biggest one for your company yet. What can visitors expect?

Goeke: We have the biggest stand in history at the show. Our intention at NPE is to showcase a tremendous amount of developments and product launches, and NPE is a great place to roll them out. We will roll out several integrated technologies, including all product brands. We will be presenting technologies assembled and delivered as a turnkey solution, directed at customer needs.

ETMM: Is there a trend towards turnkey solutions?

Goeke: Only if you can deliver an advantage. Some just need components, some need turnkey solutions - we serve both needs. The real drive in the industry is towards higher precision and lower part cost. And whatever we can do to support the mould makers and moulders to accomplish that, that's really what we are looking for. If it comes in the form of components or parts of the process, we are doing that, in other cases where we are able to assemble and deliver more in the direction of a turnkey solution, developed together with the mould maker, there is a lot of interest in that direction.

Hagelstein: The big players in our industry, such as Unilever, are looking for a single point of contact, a supplier who can deliver whole solutions. We work closely with our customers and deliver these solutions.

ETMM: Is there anything you would like to add?

Goeke: What we are investing in is innovation and product development. The launch we have planned for NPE is unprecedented amongst all of our product brands in terms of what we roll out as new. It's a list of great technologies. We have really revitalised the company, and the acquisition of Mold-Masters has been a real key of that. 2015 will be a super year for Milacron in terms of rolling out new products.
