Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrik Paul Horn Grooving chip breaker inserts for widths of less than 2 mm
Germany – Horn's new narrow triple-edge cutting insert for the 315 type grooving system features a range of chip breaker geometries for full and partial cuts for grooving widths of less than 2 mm.
The available indexable insert cutting widths of 1.1/1.3/1.5 and 2 mm in left or right-hand design support grooving depths of up to 5 mm. The new EG55 high-performance coating grade, which has been developed in the Horn laboratory, is characterised by its outstanding adhesion to the carbide substrate, high homogeneity, wear resistance and incredibly long tool life in general steel machining applications. The S315 indexable insert fits into a standard R-type toolholder or L356…S.4.03 IK type with internal coolant supply with shank diameters of 16, 20 and 25 mm.
Furthermore, the new S15A grooving insert supplements the 25A axial grooving system with a version for axial grooving diameters larger than 20 mm with a cutting width of 4 mm, Horn says. The "L" chip geometry (a new feature of the 25A system) is said to ensure reliable chip flow.
