Return of investment in five years

Looking forward, Schilling assumes that the investment will be amortised in just over five years. “With this manufacturing cell, we have taken a big step into the future,” Schilling is convinced. What is still being discussed elsewhere has already been realised by 3D-Schilling: “Industry 4.0” – an automated one-off production at a self-organising level. Meanwhile, the “Internet of Things” is already reality in this manufacturing, Schilling says. Humans input a task that is performed by the machines that communicate with each other.

“The investment was a quantum leap for us. In 2014 alone, we increased our productivity by 60%. For 2015, we expect another leap, although we do not completely exploit the system to its full potential yet,” Schilling concludes. “We have become more efficient thanks to the system's process reliability, transparency and flexibility, which also affects up- and downstream processes. Therefore, we have entirely restructured our processes. We had the courage to give up old habits and to get involved with the potential of such a manufacturing cell. However, one needs time, patience and the right staff in order to master the complexity.”
