Extensive training for all staff

“Such a manufacturing cell instils considerable respect even to experienced toolmakers and work planners,” Schilling says. In order to exploit the full potential of such a system,one not only needs time and patience, but also well-trained staff, especially in regards to good production planning. As a result, 3D-Schilling trains all future employees working in production planning for half a year. They have to know the procedures, to understand their trade and be aware of what's happening at every point of the production process. Of course, all staff involved have been extensively trained for the manufacturing cell to master the complexity of the system itself but also all other work steps and planning measures involved.

The integrated measuring machine automatically inspects all parts, making sure they are all within the specified tolerances, and the data management system by Certa ensures the necessary and reliable exchange of date within, to and from the manufacturing cell.

“We have never questioned the decision to invest in the automated manufacturing cell, and we would take it again,” Schilling says. “We benefit from the speed, the consistency and we must not make any compromise, for example in the area of data management.” According to Schilling, other advantages include the minimal setup-related downtimes of the machines, the possibility to produce even small batches automatically and flexibly, and in particular, the high process reliability and the transparent job status information.
