7. More sophisticated materials and new machining technologies

In processing both sheet metal and plastics, the new and improved materials that make up our customers’ end products are placing ever higher demands on tools and moulds. To reduce wear, for example, this in turn requires the use of hard and tough materials for tools and moulds, whether as cutting punches for metal or melt guides and cavities for plastics.
Look critically not just at the machinery and the cutting tools used, but also at processing strategies. New demands on sheet metal processing and injection moulding often require new production technologies. Examples are additive processes to create punch geometries, near-contour cooling, and laser texturing of process surfaces. These require not just new know-how, but also new processing options and technologies that have to be developed either in-house or with reliable partners.
