The event is organised by the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of the RWTH Aachen University and by the Fraunhofer-Institute for Production Technology (IPT). The four directors of both - Prof. Günther Schuh, Prof. Fritz Klocke, Prof. Robert Schmitt and Prof. Christian Brecher - will be hosting the colloquium.

The AWK 2017 offers various approaches and strategies regarding the Internet of Production in two parallel series of talks including technical and keynote lectures as well as five plenary speeches from science and industry.

According to Prof. Günther Schuh, the Internet of Production describes a real-time, secure availability of information at all times and anywhere. Precise and continuous data analysis has to be followed by pattern recognision, which provides predictability for decision support as a second step on the way to controlled production.

"The competitive advantage of aggregated information in real time allows new dimensions of adaptation and agility in implementation, "says Prof. Schuh, managing director of the machine tool laboratory WZL.

The special focus of the AWK 2017 is on the oppotunities and chances of the "Internet of Production". Âccording to the organizers, their approach shows how revolutionary this revolution can be: "The fear of change must be overcome", said Prof. Schmitt at the preceding press conference.

More than 1,000 German and international experts are expected to take part in the conference and to exchange their ideas on the implementation of concrete solutions. Moreover, a accompanying industrial exhibition can be visited.

The conference is held in German. Simultaneous interpretation in English throughout all lectures is offered.
