Thermoplay Compact, low-cost temperature controller for hot runner moulding applications
Controllers – Italy-based Thermoplay, belonging to the Barnes Group Inc.’s moulding solutions strategic business unit, has expanded its range of TH-M6 temperature controllers by offering a new three-zone model.
According to the company, the new controller is a compact and low-cost product that has the capabilities which presents the same characteristics as the six and 12-zone models.
A wide graphic display with 240 x 64 pixels allows for the simultaneous visualisation of all information relevant to each, single-controlled zone and visualises scrolling messages, which helps the operator in the case of alarm. Moreover, the temperature controller continuously regulates the absorption of each zone and also allows prompt intervention when plastic material leaks from an injector.
In addition, the controller identifies and signals thermocouple failures (breakage and inverted connection), fuse and heater interruptions, solid-state relay faults, and interruptions of any of the supply phases. On the front panel, six LED indicators are used for each zone, which signal any kind of malfunction of the control loop in a univocal way.
Should a thermocouple fail, the operator can switch a zone to another with the same thermal behaviour (“slave” function), providing a valid alternative to manual operation. The synchronous increase of the temperature function prevents heating differences in the various zones, thanks to the different characteristics of each heater during machine start-ups. Thus, it is not necessary to resort to a delayed start-up of the zone relevant to the nozzle anymore, Thermoplay explains.
All regulation parameters and those referring to alarms can be collectively modified in all zones. The function is switched on by a button on the panel. TH-M6 temperature controllers are available in three, six and 12-zone configurations. The models 24-48 and EVO are a provided with a high-performing operator terminal and offer additional features for monitoring and support through a local or remote network (Wi-fi or Ethernet).
