Supporting start-ups and young innovative companies
Formext is an event aiming at showing innovations, which already is apparent in the tile: the "event and conference on the next generation of manufacturing”. This is taken seriously. One exciting demonstration at the event will be the presentations of the winners of the Start-Up Challenge. According to Mesago, these impressive innovations map out the future of additive manufacturing. With companies from Germany, Great Britain and the United States among the winners, the international portfolio of winning innovators shows solutions from around the world. The young companies that have won the jury over are Aim-3D, AM Technologies, Authentise, Elementum 3D and Identify-3D.
Aim-3D is a spin-off of the University of Rostock and plans to bring a new series of printers to market using the composite extrusion modelling (CEM) that combines additive manufacturing with metal injection molding. AM Technologies (AMT) from England won over the jury with an automated post-processing solution for 3D-printed polymer components. The produced parts are said to have a similar surface quality as injection moulded parts. US-based Authentise has won the Start-Up Challenge with a software designed to automate and monitor AM operations. Using a patented reactive additive manufacturing (RAM) technology, Elementum 3D set out to specialise in the development of high-performance materials for 3D printing. Another start up from the US, Identify-3D, developed a digital supply chain software that adapts processes and products to established engineering stantards. It is aimed at offering quality assurance that covers everything from initial designs to finished products.
The start-ups will receive their awards at a official presentation on Tuesday at the Formnext stage (Hall 3.1, B10, 5:00 pm). “Formnext gives young, award-winning companies like these the chance to present themselves and their products to a highly qualified international audience on our innovative exhibition platform,” states Sascha Wenzler. Consequently, the winners' presentations at the trade show are being sponsored by Formnext.
Purmundus Challenge focusing on “human” applications
In addition to the Start-Up Challenge, another interesting event will be part of Formnext again: Purmundus Challenge. With the motto “Fusion – 3D printing intelligently combined”, this years challenge is looking for creative ideas for innovative 3D printed products. Designes, engineers and programmers have been invited to take part at the competition to present their application. This year, the organisers announced, the Challenge is looking for models that use 3D printing to present new possibilities in our high-tech daily lives and bring them closer to reality through more “human” applications. How the participants have interpret this request, will be shown at the Purmundus Challenge Area at Formnext. An international jury will announce the winners of this year's challenge during the course of the event.
Matchmaking and career options: More
Formnext comes with a number of accompanying events for visitors to help them in finding their own future in additive manufacturing. For example, Enterprise Europe Network of Hessen Trade & Invest GmbH is offering an international matchmaking event for exhibitors and visitors. This offers the chance to book meetings with interesting companies and research institutions. The matchmaking event will take part on 15th November.
Visitors who want to learn more about 3D printing can also visit the Discover-3D-printing seminars offered by Formnext and the Aachen Centre for Additive Manufacturing. Held daily at Formnext, these 2-hour courses are aimed to help visitors to discover their chances and potential of additive manufacturing. Real applications will be presented to illustrate the possibilities and limitations of 3D printing.
For those who want to find a new career path in additive manufacturing, the Career day at Formnext on 16 November offers the chance to get informations on possible careers and to network. According to the organisers, universities and educational institutions will aslo be present to inform about their study programmes and training courses. Part of this event are also guided tours, resume photo shoots and one-on-one career consulting sessions.
