So far, tools applicable up to a working depth of 3xD (3 x diameter) have been available. At EMO, Jongen has finally presented new drills from the drilling cutters programme, working up to a drilling depth of 5xD. The same inserts can be adopted in both tool types. The rigid construction of the tools and the stable design of the inserts allow high feed rates, thus high productivity and efficiency, the company explains.

The tools have a good initial drilling performance, since the coordinated insert geometries and the angles of attack allow a soft entry into the material. Therefore, the machining safety can be maintained also during difficult pre-drilling situations.

The tools‘ surface is nickel-coated and very even, ensuring a long tool live and an optimal chip flow. The chip flow is additionally supported by the improved chip chamber with optimised collar outlet. Furthermore, the tools have all internal coolant passages.

The precision sintered drilling inserts have four effective cutting edges. The insert at the outer diameter is identical with the one at the central cutting edge (the outer and inner cutting edges are identical).

Different insert types are available. The quality HT65 is suitable for steel and cast iron materials. The broadband quality HT60 is universally applicable for all usual steels, up to high-grade steel, highly heat-resistant materials, as well as cast iron materials. The quality K15M can be adopted for the machining of aluminium and plastics.

Thanks to the multiple available tool diameters starting from 14 to 44 mm and the narrow gradation in max. 1 mm-steps, almost all necessary bore dimensions can be produced. The tools are designed for rotating and vertical spindle operations, meaning they are applicable on milling and turning machines.
