The Detron GFA series of five-axis rotary tables from UK-based YMT Technologies is said to set new standards in build quality, flexibility and accuracy.

According to YMT Technologies, the critical faces within the rotary tables are ground rather than turned for indexing accuracy and concentricity. Users can increase productivity with larger cuts and benefit from smooth braking without deforming the table surface during braking thanks to its patented dual-piston clamping technology and a fully enclosed brake drum ring operating at high pressure.
The company notes that the GFA series of tables delivers a small footprint, allowing more and larger parts to be manufactured, while the large centre bore and height of the centre line add to the flexibility of the unit. The most popular model is the GFA210S, which is good for most applications. With repeatability and accuracy being important, GFA 210S has a resolution of 0.001° and repeatability of 6-8 seconds thanks to its high-precision cross roller bearings. It has been tested with five continuous clockwise and counter-clockwise rotations to meet ISO 230-2 standards as well.

Integrated radial and axial bearings, where the spindle and bearing are one unit, add to the rigidity of the rotary table, the company notes.
Moreover, the dual lead worm uses large tooth depth, resulting in 33% greater contact surface than conventional worms. To ensure long service life, reliability and thermal stability the worm is positioned at the bottom, so that it is totally immersed in oil. These design features make the Detron GFA series ideal for heavy five-axis, cutting operations. Backed by the company's experience with rotary tables and machine controls, the Detron unit is properly interfaced to the customer’s machine tool. Here, parameters are set and the necessary connections and cards are installed. The motors are control-specific, so YMT tests the installation in-house before delivery to ensure maximum reliability and straightforward commissioning.
YMT also supplies full turnkey systems with technical advice, a range of vices and fixtures as well as automation. The Detron GFA series rotary tables have ports in the table so they are automation-ready.
