Germany -based Hermle Maschinenbau, which is located at Ottobrunn near Munich, is a subsidiary of the Maschinenfabrik Berthold Hermle AG and it will be exhibiting at Formnext.

Hermle Maschinenbau focusses mainly on the research and development of new AM technologies. It also provides various manufacturing capabilities to Hermle customers, offering them access to its patented MPA technique to produce components and larger parts. With MPA technology, different materials are combined in one part. One application is embedding copper elements as heat conductors in steel components. Here, copper was integrated in areas where cooling via a channel is not possible because of geometric limitations.

The copper transports thermal energy from hot spots to cooling channels located further inside the part. Similar to production sequences in cooling channels, predefined geometries are filled with copper using the MPA process to achieve thermal coupling between copper and steel substrates. After milling the surface, layers of steel are applied to cover the copper.
