Hymers’s lightweight aluminium machine step transforms safety and efficiency at a leading machine supplier’s demo centre, ensuring secure access for maintenance and setup across a diverse range of industrial machines.
The Hymer machine step 6878 complies with the European standard DIN EN 14183 and comes with a ten-year warranty.

A machine step from the professional access technology company Hymer has recently made it possible to look inside the machine in the demonstration and test centre of a machine supplier. The aluminium step is a real lightweight and provides a safe step when converting the various machine tools.
The machine supplier sells machine tools for grinding, turning, milling, eroding and cleaning technology. The product portfolio is impressive: the test and demonstration centre houses more than a dozen well-known machine brands. Users and interested parties can see for themselves the performance and application possibilities of the machines.
When delivering machine tools of a certain size, manufacturers often include a step-ladder. These are usually simple models that do not always meet the standards or requirements for occupational safety that apply in Germany. One of the machine experts says that the models supplied are generally not suitable for longer setup or maintenance work. With smaller machine tools, the machine operator can reach the machine room without a step-ladder. However, a stable step is often very helpful for maintenance work in the upper machine area. Even a “smaller” machine can easily exceed the two-metre mark.
The two-stage machine step 6878 from Hymer-Steigtechnik is used by the machine supplier primarily for maintenance work on the demonstration machines and, depending on the machine size, also for setting up. With a standing height of 40 cm, the employee can reach a machine height of 240 cm. For the smaller machines in the demonstration centre, this height is completely sufficient to reach everywhere. The non-slip steps made of Duett chequer plate also provide a secure footing. Especially in a demonstration centre where a wide range of machines are on display, a secure footing is essential for machine maintenance. Investing in high-quality and safe equipment is the best way to be on the safe side, says the machine expert.
No contradiction: light and yet absolutely stable
The most impressive feature of the machine step is its weight of 5.6 kg. According to users, the machine step is really extremely light and can be positioned flexibly at any machine without the need for additional transport equipment. This is hardly surprising, given that it is made of high-quality aluminium and is therefore considerably lighter than other machine steps. In the demo centre in question, the smaller version with two steps is often sufficient, but anyone who needs the "large" multi-step step can optionally attach a set of rollers for transporting it from machine to machine.
The issue of slip resistance is also important when it comes to the climbing technology used. In most metal-processing companies, the floors are contaminated because oils, greases and emulsions are used, the machine expert knows. On a machine step with smooth steps, there would be a great risk of slipping when entering or leaving. Therefore, the ribbed surface on the steps and the platform is also of great advantage. Steps with a perforated plate surface would also have been available for the machine step. In that case, the step would have even met the highest slip resistance class (R13).
The 6878 machine step was sent to the machine supplier’s demo centre as a test product and was impressive even during assembly: the step was assembled and ready for use in just a few simple steps. This is a professional product and also reflects the machine supplier’s own portfolio. The user concluded that the high-tech machine tools could therefore best be tested, equipped and maintained with a safe and stable machine step.
