Industrial engineering group Fives has announced the acquisition of Pietro Carnaghi, an Italian manufacturer of large-scale machine tools. The move expands Fives’ capabilities in high-precision machining and strengthens its offering of advanced manufacturing solutions for key industrial sectors.

Pietro Carnaghi will become part of Fives’ High Precision Machines (HPM) division. The combined operations are expected to generate annual revenues of around €400–450 million and employ approximately 1,900 people worldwide. With the addition of Pietro Carnaghi, the HPM division will operate 24 entities across North America (11), Europe (7) and Asia (6), aiming to enhance proximity, responsiveness and lifecycle support for customers.

The acquisition broadens Fives’ portfolio with vertical lathes, gantry mills, large machining centers and flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) designed for complex, large-scale rotary parts. These solutions, widely used in sectors such as defense, nuclear, aerospace and energy, complement Fives’ existing brands including Giddings & Lewis, Cincinnati, Liné Machines, Landis and Bryant.

Fives also gains control of Pietro Carnaghi’s 45,000 m² production site in northern Italy, enhancing its manufacturing capacity and supply chain capabilities while supporting the development of innovative, locally supported solutions worldwide.
