In October 2022, a joint project entitled “Reycling — Use of Recycled Material for Technical Products” will start at the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid and run for 1.5 years. The project wants to support companies that plan to use recycled materials in existing processes and products for technical applications.
In some cases, the obstacles to using recycled material are still very high.
Due to the high importance of the topic of sustainability in the plastics industry, the topic of the use of recyclate is currently occupying many companies. However, the obstacles to using recycled material are still very high in some cases. This is due to aspects such as procurement, price and material quality.
The joint project “Recycling — Use of recycled materials for technical products”, which will start in October 2022, is designed to help companies use recycled materials in existing processes and products for technical applications. In order to successfully enable the use of secondary plastics, the institute is developing a practical and systematic approach in the project.
In addition to a detailed presentation of the applicable regulatory framework conditions and answers to the most burning questions on the topic of the use of recycled materials, the project offers a market overview of procurement options for recycled materials. In practical tests, various recyclates are classified in terms of their quality according to DIN SPEC 91446 and examined in combination with virgin materials with regard to their mechanical and rheological properties.
The project participants are also considering the so-called marker technology, in which the recyclability of plastic products can be increased by marking the components with marker additives and providing them with specific information. They are focusing on this technology against the background of the development of new business models in the form of deposit systems for the company's own plastic parts.
