Big Daishowa, a supplier of tooling systems for the metalworking industry, is expanding its range of power chucks to include the Mega 12DS, designed for high performance trochoidal milling. The Mega 12DS joins Big Daishowa's DS range of milling toolholders to provide a tooling solution for trochoidal milling with increased rigidity and clamping force. This new addition is available in several versions, including BBT30/40, HSK-A and C, and is compatible with 10 mm and 12 mm end mills.
The Mega Series features precision ground and balanced high speed milling chucks. The components are designed for applications that require higher cutting parameters compared to conventional machining. The design aims to provide good rigidity, making it suitable for speeds up to 30,000 rpm. The high clamping force is designed to hold the tool securely during machining.
The new Mega 12DS range is particularly suitable for customers with dynamic machines who use modern milling strategies in demanding materials.

Christian David, Sales Manager at Big Daishowa, notes that high speed cutting (HSC) and trochoidal milling are becoming increasingly important in the industry. He mentions that these end mills are manufactured with unequal pitch, which tends to reduce vibration. According to David, the Mega 12DS is suitable for dynamic machines using advanced milling techniques on challenging materials. The design features a larger contact diameter between the nut and flange to maximise rigidity. This level of rigidity is intended to provide stable, vibration-free machining at high speeds. The product also incorporates a high-flow coolant supply designed to improve surface finish, facilitate chip evacuation and extend tool life while providing optimum cooling and lubrication.
