35.Bi-Mu, the international biennial exhibition dedicated to the manufacturing industry, is approaching. The event will take place at Fieramilano Rho from 13 to 16 October and will focus on metal forming and metal cutting machine tools, robots, automation, digital and additive manufacturing, auxiliary technologies and enabling technologies.

Five months ahead of the trade show, a large number of companies have already confirmed their participation, including major enterprises and many industry leaders returning as exhibitors, the organisers announce. Promoted by Ucimu and organised by Efim-Ente Fiere Italiane Macchine, 35.Bi-Mu will showcase state-of-the-art digitalised and interconnected machines and technologies. These include Industry 4.0 solutions, automation systems and AI applications designed to support processes typical of the digital factory.

In addition to machine tools, the event will feature seven technological themes. Robot Heart will focus on automation, components, systems and artificial intelligence, sponsored by SIRI, the Italian Robotics and Automation Association. Amitaly will cover the entire additive manufacturing supply chain and is sponsored by Aita, the Italian Association of Additive Technologies. Bi-Mu Digital will present digital solutions for the smart factory, including advanced software, connectivity technologies, data security, sensors and self-adaptive systems. Metrology and Testing will focus on measuring instruments, testing machines and machine vision. Power4Machines will host components for mechanical, electrical and pneumatic power transmission and is sponsored by Federtec, the Association of the Italian Production Chain of Mechatronic Technologies and Components for Fluid Power. Heat and Surface Treatments will showcase plants and systems for improving material performance.

A new theme for this edition will be Tool Tech, dedicated to advanced tools for efficient and high-precision production. The product offering will be completed by an overview of Revamping & Retrofitting, presenting a selection of machines and systems that have been refurbished and upgraded to meet the needs of the second-life market, which complements the market for new equipment.

Alongside the technology exhibition, 35.Bi-Mu will offer a series of thematic cultural initiatives aimed at professionals visiting the event.

With the growing number of trade shows and networking initiatives organised by individual companies at their own premises, the trade fair sector is increasingly moving towards a hybrid format. This combines product presentations with a broader cultural programme. For this edition of Bi-Mu, that programme will include a wide range of new activities.

In addition to meetings on the technological trends shaping machine tools, robotics and automation, as well as presentations of new products by individual companies, this edition of Bi-Mu will introduce forums dedicated to two sectors with particularly strong growth potential and dynamic demand: Aerospace & Defence and Energy.

The two events, entitled “90 Minutes with the World of Aerospace & Defence”, scheduled for Wednesday 14 October, and “90 Minutes with the World of Energy”, scheduled for Thursday 15 October, will feature panel discussions with four representatives from leading companies. The panels will include large, medium-sized and small enterprises, reflecting the broad range of businesses active in each sector.

The discussions will address current challenges, key requirements related to production processes in companies operating in these sectors, and specific expectations for suppliers of production technologies. Through these forums, Bi-Mu broadens its scope by offering trade show visitors an analysis of some of the most interesting business opportunities for exhibitors, presented by leading figures from these industries.

The exhibition will also take place during a period in which the Hyper-Depreciation incentive is fully applicable. This will allow operators to benefit from the advantages of the measure, which is expected to support domestic demand after several months of stagnation.

For young people, the Education & Skills project will return, with Robotgames as its flagship event. Now in its second edition, the automation and robotics contest is promoted by Ucimu Academy and organised by Efim for high-school students. On Thursday 15 October, the 12 finalist teams, representing 11 schools from across Italy, will compete by presenting innovative robotic automation projects for industrial applications.

The area dedicated to schools, which are invited to visit Bi-Mu either independently or through tutor-guided tours, will be animated throughout the four exhibition days by a series of meetings focused on younger generations.

In addition, Aita, the Italian Association of Additive Technologies, and Efim are promoting Additive Future Lab for students of Higher Technical Institutes, known as ITS Academies. This new national contest is designed to introduce young talent to additive manufacturing technologies, which are playing an increasingly central role in industrial processes. The award ceremony will take place in the Amitaly area on 16 October.

Another new initiative for this edition is the Bi-Mu Futuretech Awards, which will recognise the most innovative manufacturing solutions presented at the exhibition. The contest is open to exhibitors at 35.Bi-Mu, who can compete in three categories: mechanical innovation, digitalisation and sustainability. The initiative highlights the role of the trade show as an event capable of documenting and anticipating technological advances in industrial production.

As usual, all award ceremonies, together with the thematic cultural meetings, will be held at the Bi-Mupiù Arena. The arena will also host the opening ceremony of the event, scheduled for the morning of Tuesday 13 October.

To make it easier for trade visitors to reach the exhibition, including by train, a high-speed rail stop will be activated directly at the fair venue for this edition of Bi-Mu.
