For Swiss Steel Group, the Wire trade fair in Düsseldorf (April 13 to 17 2026) offers the opportunity to showcase its portfolio and its position as a supplier of specialty steels for demanding applications. Under the motto “Make Steel Matter,” the company demonstrates just how crucial specialty steel is to progress. The Group’s specialty steels are used in a wide variety of applications — including the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, energy supply, and medical technology. They are often components of safety-critical or high-stress parts and contribute to the functionality and reliability of technical systems.

A key focus of the trade show presentation is the topic of machinability. The properties of a material during further processing have a direct impact on productivity, costs, and process reliability.

Steels with optimized machinability enable higher cutting speeds, longer tool life, and more stable machining processes. This helps make production processes more efficient and reduce total cost of ownership. To this end, the company is showcasing its portfolio of materials specifically designed for reliable and cost-effective machining.

Another key focus is the sustainable orientation of steel production. Swiss Steel Group consistently relies on the electric steelmaking route and produces steel from scrap. Approximately 92 percent of the metallic raw materials used come from recycled material, with around 1.3 million tons of scrap processed annually.

On this basis, the company achieves a significantly reduced carbon footprint: emissions stand at around 0.17 t CO₂ per ton of crude steel (Scopes 1+2), which is up to 85 percent below the global average for the steel industry (Scopes 1, 2, and partly 3, World Steel Mix). At the same time, a large portion of the energy supply comes from low-emission sources — around 83 percent is derived from low-carbon energy, with a growing share coming from renewable sources.

Swiss Steel Group once again received the top grade of “A” in the CDP rating for climate protection. Additionally, the company was awarded the Platinum Medal by EcoVadis, the platform’s highest rating for sustainability performance. These ratings underscore the company’s progress in reducing emissions, using recycled materials, and transparently disclosing environmental data.
