JPB Système, a company specialising in high-performance aerospace technologies, has purchased a stake in Addimetal, a start-up based in France that manufactures 3D printers. This strategic move is to provide both firms with complete and secure sharing of knowledge regarding their industrial-grade metal binder jetting (MBJ) 3D printing technology. This technology is ideal for the production of small, complex, lightweight, and repeatable parts in short runs.
In addition to financial aid, Addimetal is to benefit from JPB's detailed insights into the most appropriate applications of MBJ and their respective requirements. Damien Marc, CEO of JPB Système, stated that the stake acquisition in Addimetal underscores the company's commitment to supporting the development of open 3D printing platforms. These platforms would provide a wider range of solutions for the manufacturing of small, complex, lightweight parts in small volumes.
JPB Système has been researching the benefits and potentials of MBJ 3D printing technology and the results of the trials have been promising. For some parts, they were able to reduce the overall lead times by 80 percent and achieve weight savings of 30 percent, which is crucial for aerospace customers. JPB Système is the only French company developing this particular 3D printing technology, making this partnership with Addimetal significant.
The company expects to have its first MBJ-produced parts in production by 2026.
