The system supplier for machine tools, Haimer, is a premium partner and supporter of the Augsburger Panther hockey team in the German Hockey League. The company took this opportunity to demonstrate the performance capabilities of its tools and tool holders by creating a model panther. The CAM specialists at Open Mind took on the challenging programming task using their Hypermill software.

Italy — Bologna based company Vetimec supplies the international automotive industry and foundries with moulds, including injection moulds. Since die-sinking EDM dominates the production of these moulds, efficiency depends on the production of the graphite electrodes. With the changeover to special milling tools from Hufschmied, Vetimec can now machine graphite 30 percent faster and 20 percent more economically.

When long-established cutting tool manufacturer AA Tools was acquired by new owners in 2014, the objective was to modernise the shop floor equipment with the very latest CNC machine tool technology. For the bespoke cutting tool manufacturer, the acquisition trail included a CNC tool and cutter grinder, a 4th-axis machining centre, a live tooling turning centre, an EDM drilling machine and a Mitsubishi MV1200R wire EDM machine from the Engineering Technology Group (ETG).

A new face mill launched by Widia has been designed for rough to semi-finish machining of a variety of steels, stainless steels, cast and nodular irons.

Developed as high-end specialist tools for the aviation, motor sport and medical industries, the new arrivals are universal tools that are suitable for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing operations.

Mould making specialist Braunform, in cooperation with Moldino Tool Engineering Europe, has reviewed its electrode milling processes, developed alternatives and tapped into new potential. The solution had such a striking result that the entire graphite machining process at the plastics specialist in Baden switched to tools from Moldino.

UK — A subcontractor from Northern Ireland worked with HBO Studios and Tourism Ireland in the creation of beech wood doors for the sixth series of Game of Thrones TV. Cutting machines from ITC were integral to this project.
