The new SMS Heligrind SH series of grinding machines from SMS Maschinenbau permits a wide range of grinding applications, thanks to its modular design.
SMS Maschinenbau's SH grinding machine has up to eight CNC axes, namely the workpiece table (Z-axis), grinding support (X-axis), workpiece drive (C-axis), swivelling axis (A-axis) and optional axes such as the vertical axis (Y-axis), radial-dressing axis (V-axis), axial-dressing axis (W-axis) and the cooling nozzle (U-axis), while the basic version has a table-mounted dressing unit. Designed as a console machine in a travelling column construction, it is compact and vibration-free, SMS notes. The optional vertical axis is with hydraulic weight compensation. This extends the application range of the basic version with an additional adjusting axis.
Additionally, it can be further expanded to include a dynamic oscillation axis. An I/O-link sensor creates a basis for IoT. The work area is separated from the drive and power supply components.
The new modular control software (Helitouch) permits simple and fast programming to allow for short setup times. The machine can be networked with other Helitouch systems to exchange programmes and settings. The use of special profile software permits the precise grinding of almost all profile shapes.
Depending on the version and extras, SH is said to be suitable for very precise and highly productive grinding of all kinds of thread-type workpieces, including worms, screw spindles, extruder screws, ball screws, threaded rolls, threaded gauges, threaded tools such as cutting and forming taps, gear-cutting tools, broaching tools, compressor rotors, gear racks and special gears. Among other options to further enhance the machine are grinding spindle units, indexing/ measuring units, automatic loading systems (robots), automatic coolant supply and adjusting or rail axis as a lift axis as well as dressing variants.
At AMB, the SH grinding machine will be presented at the company booth in Hall 5, Booth B71.
