With the future unfolding at high speed, GF Machining Solutions’ products have been evolving to a more modular appearance. Visitors of the company booth at EMO were among the first to get a glimpse of the updated aesthetics and the company’s latest machines. The design update that now enhances the products’ visual appearance took almost two years. Among the machines on show were the Microlution ML-5, the DMP Flex 350, the Mikron Mill E 700 U, the Agie Charmilles Cut AM 500 and the new Agie Charmilles Cut P 550 Pro.

Some 64 years ago, GF Machining Solutions launched the first Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) solution for commercial use at EMO Milan 1955.

Since then, the GF Division has been innovatively expanding its technology portfolio while staying connected to clients the entire time. The last 20 years have seen milling, spindles, tooling and automation being added to the portfolio, while the last decade alone saw laser texturing, laser micro-machining, additive manufacturing, software and digitalisation solutions being integrated.

As the fourth industrial revolution — Industry 4.0 — reshapes the way manufacturers work, GF finds itself at the forefront with solutions to advance flexibility, productivity, speed and quality.

Scheduled to be launched in mid-2020, the Agie Charmilles Cut P 550 Pro with its new human-machine interface (HMI), was unveiled at EMO 2019. Many were treated to an exclusive preview of how the intuitive, easy-to-use HMI interface brings a new level of flexibility to machine programming. High flexibility and ease of use are among the benefits delivered by the machine’s new HMI.

An unprecedented advance

Regardless of whether machine operators are used to working with Vision interface or high-level clients are accustomed to ISO programming, the object-oriented HMI allows for high productivity, according to GF.

  • The user-friendly interface is easy for the operator to handle and features attractive and easy-to-understand graphics that pave the way to machining success.
  • It offers high flexibility, simplifying tasks like stopping the machine, changing machining strategy or changing a part.
  • Processes become logical with intuitive on-screen icons at the touch of a finger.
  • Its ease of use ensures a low-learning curve, making it simple for novices, seasoned Vision users and veteran ISO code programmes to use.

The Cut P 550 Pro also featured the company’s new Spark Track technology at the show, which GF says is a wire-cutting EDM breakthrough in monitoring spark distribution along the wire.

Spark Track technology, with its state-of-the-art Intelligent Spark Protection System (ISPS) module, makes the wire EDM process more secure, efficient and easy to execute. The ISPS smart system also enables users to avoid wire breakage, regardless of machining conditions, while increasing performance, the company explained.
