The growing focus on green transformation (GX) within the automotive and various industrial sectors has driven an increased demand for high-efficiency machining tools. Sumitomo Electric first responded to these industry needs with the launch of the SEC-Sumi Dual Mill DMSW series in June 2021, followed by the DMSL series in March 2023, which supported diameters up to ø16 mm. The latest expansion introduces cutter diameters ranging from ø35 mm to ø100 mm, enhancing versatility for a broader range of cutting conditions in automotive, aircraft, industrial machinery and mould manufacturing applications.

The expanded series supports high-efficiency machining with ultra-high-feeds and large depths of cut. The complex arc-shaped cutting edge allows for a smaller cutting angle and larger depth of cut, enabling ultra-high-feed machining at a maximum of 3.5 mm per tooth in conditions where large depths of cut are not possible. In scenarios with low feed rates, the tool can achieve a large depth of cut at 1.5 mm per tooth. The design includes a small cutting angle that directs the cutting force towards the back force direction, ensuring stable machining without chatter, even when the tool is used with a long overhang. Furthermore, the wiper flat effect generated by the complex arc-shaped cutting edge minimizes deterioration of the machined surface finish, even under ultra-high-feed conditions.
