Helping to implement AM in the mould and die sector

The two men stress that the aim of the collaboration is to provide both, the best solution and the combined expertise required to successfully implement AM in the mould and die industry. “Sometimes it is difficult to connect the processes manually by transferring parts from one machine to the other and hoping to position it correctly,” Langer says. “However, if you have an automated solution, you eliminate many mistakes and inaccuracies.”

“To date, AM tended to rely on a stand-alone machine in a mould shop,” Boillat adds. “Now we are integrating this technology into the industry in the most efficient way. We have the reputation of knowing how to industrialise innovative processes, and our message at EMO is that two leaders in the field of AM and substractive technology are coming together to cooperate and offer the best solutions for their customers. They receive simplified processes from one source – hardware, support, maintenance and software. We also need to simplify processes at the software level because we need these two technologies to communicate.”

Both companies are adamant that customers need solutions, not single machines or technologies and that the efficient integration of all available technologies into companies’ processes will benefit both customers and end-users. “AM is part of the solution if it is used in an industrial way,” Boillat concludes. “We have a good chance of realising the industrial use of AM technology through this collaboration. We are only at the beginning but we are keen to move this to the next level to embrace this opportunity.”
