Japanese cutting tool manufacturer Tungaloy has expanded its Tungcut product line with the launch of new STX inserts designed for grooving applications in non-ferrous metals. The inserts combine a three-dimensional chipbreaker with the newly developed PCD grade DX160, aiming to improve chip control and surface quality in demanding machining environments.

Grooving and parting operations on materials such as aluminium alloys often generate long, continuous chips that can entangle with tools or workpieces, increasing the risk of process instability, tool breakage, and machine downtime. According to Tungaloy, the STX inserts address this issue with a dog-bone-shaped 3D chipbreaker that facilitates reliable chip breaking across a wide range of cutting conditions, including external, internal, and face turning.

The inserts also feature discharge grooves that guide chip flow, available in both right- and left-hand versions to support different machining setups. In addition, the new DX160 PCD grade is designed for enhanced wear resistance and prolonged tool life, particularly in high-speed operations involving aluminium and other non-ferrous materials.

With these updates, the Tungcut series is intended to offer improved stability, reduced tool change frequency, and greater efficiency for users in precision and automated manufacturing environments.
