Modern machining challenges require high-performance tools that enable the user to produce the highest quality in an economical and resource-saving manner. To make it easier for users to find the optimum, customised tool for them, Inovatools recommends particularly powerful tools from the Inovatools tool families as a first choice selection. These are tool solutions from 1st Choice Steel Milling, 1st Choice Steel Drilling, 1st Choice Inox Milling, 1st Choice Inox Drilling, 1st Choice Aluminum, 1st Choice Graphite and GRP/CFRP and 1st Choice Titanium. Marcus Schubert, Head of Sales and Marketing at Inovatools: “Depending on the area of application, each tool is optimally adapted to the special requirements of the materials to be machined in terms of carbide, edge preparation, cutting geometry, chip removal and high-performance coating. 'First Choice' tools therefore enable shorter production times and longer tool life, resulting in lower workpiece and machine costs. Practical results testify this.”
Continuous expansion of the tool families
Inovatools is continuously expanding its portfolio of individual tool families, and presented the new Starmax Super Finish VHM finishing cutter at AMB (AN: 746 ...). for universal use in a wide range of materials and applications such as steel, stainless steel, cast materials, non-ferrous metals and even plastics. With its six cutting edges, the high-performance tool was developed for finishing workpieces to achieve extremely smooth surfaces. The Starmax Super Finish is therefore particularly suitable for applications where maximum precision and surface quality are required, for example in tool and mold making or in the aerospace industry.
In the 1st Choice Inox milling program, Inovatools is expanding its range with the VHM torus milling cutter HPC Fightmax Inox Z5 (AN: 295...) with the Duocon smooth coating. It is optimized for high feed rates and cutting speeds, enabling fast and efficient material removal and precise machining of stainless steel and other tough materials. With five rounded cutting edges (torus shape), it offers high performance, reduced vibrations and a longer tool life when machining these demanding materials. Marcus Schubert: “Among other things, the tool has to contend with edge zone hardening and the high toughness of the material. As the materials are poor heat conductors, rapid chip removal is of great importance. In addition, the tool must be designed in such a way that the chips that tend to stick and jam can drain off safely. We have optimized the Fightmax Inox Z5 to meet these challenges. The tool design with five cutting edges allows an increased cutting frequency, minimizes vibrations during machining and offers an excellent balance between a high machining rate and metal removal rate, as well as very good surface quality, which is particularly advantageous when machining these hard or tough materials.”
New TSC milling cutters: Impressive metal removal rates at high speed
Trochoidal Speed Cutting (TSC) is the process of the hour — especially when it comes to profitably producing high-quality large cross-sections with low cutting forces at high speeds, even under critical operating conditions. Compared to conventional full slot milling, the special trochoidal machining path helps to achieve a significantly larger cutting diameter using smaller tool diameters. Moreover, the TSC tools can be used evenly over their entire cutting edge length. The bottom line is that the user achieves significant productivity benefits when machining even difficult-to-cut materials. Inovatools presented 3 new high-performance trochoidal tools at AMB:
In the area of steel and Inox machining, Inovatools presented the VHM dynamic milling cutters TSC 4xD (AN: 599 ...) and 5xD (AN: 600 ...), which are specially designed for dynamic milling strategies such as TSC. For instance, these milling cutters can be used for deeper cuts without compromising the stability or efficiency of the milling process. Marcus Schubert: “The special Varocon Plus smooth coating not only aids quick removal of chips, but also makes the high performance milling cutter extremely temperature-resistant and wear-resistant even in large intervention depths. This is a prerequisite for its long service life. These trochoidal milling cutters are designed to work efficiently at lower radial cutting depths and higher feed rates. With their six teeth, they typically have more cutting edges than conventional milling cutters, which results in a more even load distribution and less vibration."

For larger intervention depths, even the new VHM dynamic milling cutter TSC 5xD (AN: 2419...) is designed for aluminum processing. This 1st Choice recommendation extends the range of applications of the ta-C program from Inovatools.
The chip spaces or flutes are designed such that the chips drain off quickly. This prevents the formation of built-up edges and thus premature clogging of the tool. The ultra-hard thin-layer carbon coating ta-C is used to counteract the abrasive effect of silicon. The special, extremely smooth high-performance coating is highly wear-resistant and low-friction, and supports excellent chip removal. Marcus Schubert: “The high resistance to abrasive wear and the low friction between the tool cutting edge and chip ensure a very long tool life”
