At Fakuma 2024, Ewikon presents a new nozzle series that combines energy efficiency with high process reliability. Other new products include a range of standardised hot halves for high-cavity applications and an innovative valve gate system for direct side gating.

The newly developed Ewikon pro Shot hot runner nozzle further improves energy efficiency and process reliability. It combines more than 30 years of experience in the development of externally heated nozzles. The core of the pro Shot nozzle is a nozzle body made of titanium. According to the company, this material significantly reduces the heat dissipation into the mould and increases energy efficiency by up to 40 percent. In combination with a powerful heating system of the latest generation, the thermal performance is also significantly increased. This makes pro Shot ideal for all standard materials as well as for the reliable processing of difficult-to-process engineering plastics. A selection of tip variants is available for the pro Shot nozzle, enabling optimum adaptation to specific application requirements. This makes the nozzle flexible and versatile. Initially, the nozzle is available with a melt channel diameter of 6 mm for open connection, other versions will follow shortly.

Pro Matrix hot halves

With pro Matrix, Ewikon offers new complete solutions for high-cavity mould concepts. This series of hot halves is available at particularly favourable conditions thanks to consistent standardisation and is available in 16-, 24-, 32- and 64-cavity versions. pro Matrix relies on proven technical components for maximum process reliability and durability. Additional technology options are available for demanding applications. These include valve gating with individual drives or as a synchronous plate system, nozzle front installation option for easier maintenance and additional manifold options for faster colour changes and sensitive materials.

With Pro Edge VG, Ewikon is expanding its range of nozzles for direct side gating with a valve gate version that sets new benchmarks in terms of ease of maintenance, gate quality and flexibility of use. A key feature of the new nozzle is its ease of maintenance. The high level of user-friendliness already offered by the open versions for side gating has been consistently maintained with the valve gate solution. All wear parts such as the valve pin, valve pin guide and valve pin seal are integrated into one assembly for each gate. This can be changed directly on the injection molding machine from the parting line without having to dismantle the mold. Downtimes for routine maintenance can therefore be significantly reduced.

In addition to highest gating point quality, pro Edge VG enables new options for the gating point positioning. The gating can now also be carried out in article areas where open side gating was previously not possible due to insufficient shear-off surfaces. In general, an area corresponding to the gate diameter of the valve pin is sufficient. In addition to the processing of standard polyolefins, the new nozzle also enables the reliable side gating of parts made of soft plastics such as TPE for the first time — processing of these materials was previously only possible to a limited extent with open side gating.

A linear servomotor of the latest generation with powerful control technology ensures the high-precision and absolutely synchronous actuation of the valve pins. The valve pin stroke and opening speed are steplessly variable and can be perfectly adapted to the process requirements. The drive mechanism is very compactly integrated into the nozzle. This enables a very low mould height.

Pro Edge VG systems are available as complete hot halves with up to 32 cavities. The pro Edge VG valve gate nozzle can be equipped with either two, four or eight tip inserts. The components are arranged in a circle around the nozzle body.
