The Anca Tool of the Year Awards recognise excellence, innovation and diversity in the cutting tool industry and celebrate the passion and creativity of industry professionals who are shaping the future of precision tooling. The big feature of this year's awards ceremony was the premiere of the new category “Anca Precision Toolmaker of the Year”. Lena Risse from Risse Werkzeugtechnik was the first winner in the category. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the profession among girls and women and to recognise the achievements of female grinders in the industry.

Anca founder Pat Boland summed up the competition year: “We saw an increase in the number and quality of entries again this year. The enthusiasm and creativity of the participants was impressive, and the complexity of the ground and simulated tools was also remarkable. The decisions were not easy, but Emuge-Franken really stood out. The combination of ceramic and carbide presented a great manufacturing challenge and effectively improved the performance and life of the tool.”

The winner: Emuge-Franken

The winning entry was a complex, multifunctional tool made of carbide and ceramic. This tool makes full use of the flexibility of the I-Grind profile software and employs various functionalities to use operations efficiently. With its exceptional precision in profile measurement and 3D edge radius measurement, the tool meets the specifications exactly and stands out for its accuracy.

Second place: Arch Cutting Tools

Arch Cutting Tools produced another excellent multifunctional tool with the required accuracy. Once again, a functional tool was created that can replace several processes, thanks to the use of profile software, segments and other I-Grind operations in development and production. The cutting edges have a constant 3D edge radius and good profile accuracy.

Third place: TDM Cutting Tools

This tool was developed to replace several processes and is the result of a combination of profile software, segments and various I-Grind operations. With a profile and edge radius that are satisfactory, it is overall a complex tool.

Virtual Tool Category

Winner: JG Group

The head of this figure was made from 24 different profiles. The process involved the strategic use of coolant holes on the initial blank, as well as helix corrections, cross-section profiling, forming grooves from solid and various profile machining operations. This is an example of how flexibly Anca's software can be used — or misused!

Second place: Hengrui Precision Tools (Jiaxing)

The tower was made with several grooves and cross-sectional profiles. The cavity in the middle is remarkable, impressively forming a screw shape with a hollow interior. All in all, this simulated tool shows a high degree of creativity in finding ideas and realising them.

Third place: ZMK Kazimieruk

This beer mug fits perfectly into the time around the Oktoberfest! It features a creative approach using cross-sectional profiles for the inside of the stein, a unique method of cutting out the pocket in the handle, and profiling software to create the distinctive indentations around the stein. This attention to detail and innovative design makes the mug an exceptional piece.
