Mr. Bausano, how do you assess the current state of the circular economy for plastics in the European industry?

The EU policy framework is driving a robust shift towards a sustainable, closed-loop economic model. In recent years, concerted actions have been taken to promote large-scale plastics recycling, such as the 2022 revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD). This new directive aims to ensure that all packaging placed on the EU market is fully reusable or recyclable by 2030. To achieve this ambitious target, the Commission mandates higher levels of post-consumer recyclates in plastic packaging, which is expected to lead to a growing demand for recycled plastic products.
