Nimbus has completed the acquisition of 3M’s Precision Grinding & Finishing (PG&F) business. The unit will now operate as Winterthur Technology Group, formerly part of 3M, and enters a new phase as an independent company with a focus on innovation, high-performance solutions and customer support across international markets.

Winterthur Technology Group is known for precision grinding technologies and application-specific solutions. According to the company, the combination of technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities is intended to support its position in the bonded abrasives market.

During a transition period, the business will continue to operate under the 3M brand while gradually introducing Winterthur Technology Group as its future identity, with the aim of ensuring continuity for customers and partners.

Henning Andresen, Senior Partner at Nimbus, said: “Precision Grinding & Finishing is a highly respected market leader, known for its advanced technology, product quality, and ability to deliver tailored solutions. Its global footprint and skilled teams provide a strong foundation for growth.

Our investment focuses on strengthening these capabilities — enhancing agility, deepening customer focus, and driving closer collaboration across regions. As Winterthur Technology Group, the business is well positioned to accelerate growth and reinforce its leadership in precision grinding.”

Nimbus has appointed Edmar Allitsch as CEO of Winterthur Technology Group. He previously served as CEO of Winterthur Technologie AG before its acquisition by 3M and is now returning to lead the company during the transition. According to the company, he brings international experience in advanced materials and precision technologies, including expertise in precision grinding and familiarity with the company’s background.

He said: “Winterthur Technology Group combines deep technical expertise, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and close customer focus. Our priority is to strengthen innovation, deliver high-performance solutions, and support our customers’ success. We are moving forward with clarity, continuity, and ambition.”

The company states that all products and services will continue without interruption. 3M and Winterthur Technology Group will also continue to work together during the transition, including through supply agreements, development partnerships and arrangements covering services, distribution and branding.

According to the company, innovation will remain a central element of Winterthur Technology Group’s strategy. The business also announced plans to present its latest developments at GrindingHub 2026 in Stuttgart.
