Meusburger has introduced its new Profitemp+ hot runner controller, which is designed for demanding applications in plastics processing. The controller incorporates advanced technology with a compact design that aims to enhance both efficiency and precision in temperature control. The unit’s optimised control mode allows for effective regulation even in complex applications, ensuring that part quality is maintained through automatic calculation of control algorithm settings during the heating process.

The Profitemp+ includes a Setup Assistant that helps users configure all relevant settings, facilitating a quick and straightforward start-up when implementing a new mould. In addition to its rapid and high-precision control features, the controller offers versatile heating functions such as automatic ramp, Heat‘n’Dry, relay heating, and a dedicated start-up mode. These features are designed to provide gentle and consistent heating across various hot runner systems.

Flexibility is also a key aspect of the device. A pairing mode allows two controllers to be combined, which expands the number of control zones available. Safety and reliability are further supported by an intelligent mould inspection system that performs a fully automatic wiring check and inspects heaters and thermocouples before start-up. The system is integrated with multiple data interfaces and protocols, including OPC 40082‑2, to ensure standardized communication with injection moulding machines.

The user interface is available on different multi-touch screens, with options of 7″, 10″, or, upon request, an IPC 15″ screen. Additional features include full process control with monitoring of heating current, short-circuit detection, and leakage alerts, along with plain text fault signalling on the display and potential-free alarm contacts for straightforward monitoring. Mould-specific settings can be saved and recalled automatically with the optional mould identification feature, contributing to practical mould management.

To address potential issues with thermocouple failure, the controller incorporates functions such as leading zone operation, which enables controlled continued heating and helps reduce downtimes. An integrated Smart Power Limitation (SPL) further ensures that the available connecting power is not overloaded, contributing to the overall safety and stability of the process.
