Software company Machine Works is set to release the latest version of its polygon-mesh modeling engine, Polygonica 3.4. The update brings a suite of powerful new features aimed at improving the handling and manipulation of complex 3D mesh data, catering to industries such as CAD, CAM, CAE, and additive manufacturing.

Key enhancements in Polygonica 3.4 include seamless UV parameterisation, allowing for improved texture mapping on 3D models, and refined smoothing algorithms to clean up ragged boundaries often found in laser scan data. Other advanced tools include feature detection for embossed and engraved labels, a utility to reconstruct solid meshes from dense slices, and enhanced registration and alignment capabilities with a new fine-tune mode. Users can also extend surfaces at specific angles, a feature particularly useful for dental applications.

The new release supports the subtraction and intersection of 3D curves with polygon meshes, enabling more precise modifications and design possibilities. Additionally, a feature that preserves large planar areas during mesh decimation will benefit users in applications requiring high surface fidelity. Improvements in embossing on sharp edges also enhance the ability to imprint texture patterns onto mesh surfaces without sacrificing detail.

Polygonica 3.4 will be showcased at Formnext 2024 in Frankfurt from November 19 to 22, where visitors can explore the new features at the Polygonica booth in Hall 11, Stand C2.
