3D printing company Eplus 3D has introduced a new addition to its large platform printing technology, the EP-M1550. The system features a 16-laser configuration and claims to have the largest build platform available for Metal Powder Bed Fusion (MPBF) technology, improving the economics of large format part production.

According to Eplus 3D, the EP-M1550 is the world's first MPBF system with the option of 16 to 25 lasers. The EP-M1550 is designed with a four by four matrix of 16 lasers and 16 galvanometers. This configuration allows synchronous operation of the 16 lasers, resulting in a high build rate of up to 650 cm3/h. Optional configurations allow the optical system to be expanded to a five-by-five matrix with 25 lasers and 25 galvanometers.

Designed for high volume production, the EP-M1550 offers a build volume of 1558 x 1558 x 1200 mm, with the potential for height extension up to 2000 mm. This results in a functional print volume of 2,670 litres, including the build plate. The machine can be equipped with either 500 W or 700 W lasers and is compatible with various materials including titanium alloys, aluminium alloys and various steels. Layer thicknesses can range from 20 µm to 120 µm.

The EP-M1550 aims to contribute to the global large format metal additive manufacturing industry by enabling commercial operation of ultra-large format metal AM. The system is also designed to help manufacturers improve their market competitiveness.

Mary Li, General Manager of the International Division at Eplus 3D, mentioned that the company has addressed the technical challenges often associated with large metal LPBF machines. She stated that Eplus 3D has delivered nearly 20 machines with a build size of 1250 x 1250 x 1,000 mm or larger to customers for production and plans to continue to provide reliable, production-level AM systems.

More details on the EP-M1550 will be available at Formnext 2023. Interested parties can visit booth 12.0-D41 to learn more about the machine and its applications.
