At the Mecof Open Days 2025, EMCO Mecof demonstrated the breadth of its portfolio by showcasing several machine models capable of serving the same industrial sectors. This diversity underlines the team’s ability to guide customers toward solutions that match their space constraints, performance requirements, removal rates, and expectations for automation and connectivity. One of the highlights of the event was the Ecomill Plus HPC3, soon to be delivered to a customer in Italy’s general mechanical engineering sector.

The Ecomill Plus HPC3 is designed for large, complex components and offers substantial operating capacity with travel ranges of 8,000 mm on the X-axis, 1,600 mm on the Y-axis and 3,000 mm on the Z-axis. Complementing these dimensions is the PL15II worktable, measuring 9,000 × 2,500 mm and supporting loads up to 15,000 kg/m² while maintaining DIN 876 class II flatness standards. This setup provides the rigidity and stability required for demanding machining operations.

At the technological core of the system is the universal bi-rotary head with automatic millesimal positioning. It delivers 38 kW of power, 1,000 Nm of torque and rotational speeds up to 6,000 rpm, using a BIG PLUS tool interface. The machine is already prepared for automatic head change, giving users additional flexibility for future tooling configurations and expanding the range of chip-removal processes the machine can handle.

The Ecomill Plus HPC3 integrates Heidenhain’s TNC 640 HSCI CNC and an Industry 4.0 connectivity package, enabling streamlined production management and integration into digital manufacturing environments. A 60-position chain magazine with an exchange arm mounted on the column allows tool changes in the horizontal spindle position, reducing idle time and increasing productivity. Setup and quality control are supported by the HR550FS wireless pushbutton panel and the Renishaw RMP60 radio probe, both of which simplify in-process alignment and inspection.

Cooling and chip management are handled by a dual coolant system that delivers 6 bar at 28 l/min via rigid nozzles and 40 bar at 20 l/min through the spindle for tools with internal coolant channels. The 1,000-litre coolant tanks operate with two-stage filtration at 60 μm and 30 μm, ensuring efficient fluid handling and extending tool life. A chip conveyor maintains clean and continuous operation, contributing to stable process conditions. The Ecomill platform also supports Industry 5.0 requirements through optional full fairing, laser tool presetting and enhanced digital connectivity. Emco Mecof’s service network provides support from machine configuration through to maintenance.

For companies in the general engineering sector, the Ecomill Plus HPC3 represents a strategic investment. Its combination of large working volumes, precision, automation and digital integration makes it well suited to increasing competitiveness and meeting the rising demands of modern production environments. Robust, versatile and technologically advanced, the machine is built to support future-oriented manufacturing strategies.
