In order to compete in promising high-potential future markets such as tool and mould making, medical technology, electromobility and the 3C industry, high-precision machining tools with specific properties in ever smaller batch sizes are sought after, says Cemecon.

Companies that have an overview of the entire manufacturing process of premium tools and know the critical parameters of each individual step have a clear advantage. Important success factors are cutting-edge know-how, such as diamond and "HiPIMS" coatings from Cemecon as well as tool grinding machines from Anca.

Companies that have an overview of the entire manufacturing process of premium tools and know the critical parameters of each individual step have a clear advantage. Important success factors are cutting-edge know-how, such as diamond and "HiPIMS" coatings from Cemecon as well as tool grinding machines from Anca.

The Cemecon coating consists of the coating material itself as well as the coating specification, for which various parameters are set. These are, for example, coating thickness, tolerance, pre-treatment and finishing. The process steps are sensibly combined and precisely adapted so that the coating combines with the substrate and geometry to form an optimal machining system for the respective application, as Cemecon explains. The "HiPIMS" coating offers another special feature, because it succeeds in combining the chemical composition of the coating material with special physical properties. In this way, manufacturers secure unique selling propositions, as it goes on to say.

The tool and mould market is growing steadily

One of the continuously growing markets is tool and mould making, as Cemecon recognises. This is because moulds for injection moulding plastic parts are needed for a wide variety of applications and in virtually all sectors of industry. However, machining injection moulds from hardened steels with a hardness of over 50 HRC is not trivial, the company adds. The tools must be highly wear-resistant in order to be able to economically machine the hard and tough metals for the moulds. At the same time, the highest surface qualities are required for even the smallest contours. With the "HiPIMS" coating material Steelcon, Cemevon offers the right basis for hard machining. Steelcon is described as extremely hard and yet very tough and adhesive. The dense layer structure and the high thermal stability, combined with the high quality of the material, make it ideal for precise hard machining in tool and mould making. The smooth surface ensures optimal chip and heat removal, which also increases process stability. The user benefits from significantly longer tool life and very precise machining results. Steelcon scores points in the machining of hardened steels beyond 50 HRC, stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, titanium, cobalt-chromium alloys, and so on.

The coating material is also particularly suitable for optimising microtools. The production of micro tools is a special challenge for coating technology - the cleaning of small and very small tools is demanding. But smooth tool surfaces are crucial for success in micro-machining. In the worst case, defective areas (droplets) can lead to tool breakage. To maintain the sharpness of the cutting edges, low-stress coatings are indispensable. Achieving a homogeneous coating also requires an adapted charge. Cemecon masters this balancing act. The combination of Anca's grinding technology and Cemecon's coating expertise brings new advantages to the machining world.
