On Saturday, 12 October, the 34th edition of BI-MU, the international biennial exhibition focused on machine tools, robots, automation, digital and additive manufacturing, and subcontracting, concluded at fieramilano Rho. The event, which began on Wednesday, 9 October, showcased industry advancements over the course of four days.

Organized by Efim and supported by Ucimu, the association of Italian manufacturers of machine tools, robots, automation systems, and auxiliary products, the exhibition featured over 750 companies. This marked an 8.5 percent increase in participation compared to the 2022 edition, with the event spanning 65,000 square meters of exhibition space.

International participation was significant, with 37 percent of the exhibitors coming from abroad. Companies from Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Switzerland, the United States, Spain, France, China, South Korea, Austria, the United Kingdom, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Poland, the Netherlands, San Marino, Ireland, Hong Kong, and Belgium were represented at the event.

Approximately 35,000 trade professionals attended the exhibition, with 5 percent of them coming from 62 different countries. Among the most represented nations were Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, and Slovenia from Europe; the United States and Brazil from the Americas; and China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Turkey from Asia.

Additionally, 80 foreign operators, including industry users and journalists from 16 countries — such as Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Egypt, India, and others — were invited as part of a mission organized by Ucimu in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Alfredo Mariotti, general manager of Ucimu, stated: “Despite the particularly complicated economic period, BI-MU has been able to defend its position as the reference event for the industry of machine tools, robotics, automation, digital and additive manufacturing, showing an increase in the number of its direct and indirect exhibitors, as against a partial reduction in exhibition spaces. Moreover, the presence of thematic areas, such as the well-established Robot Heart, Più Additive and BI-MU Digital contributed to enhancing the value of the thematic and product offerings of our trade show”.

The 60 speeches hosted in the BI-MU Più Arena involved over 1,400 people in attendance and about 5,000 users connected online thanks to the live streaming service activated on the homepage of bimu.it.

Of particular interest was the Robotics Day that saw all the main organisations representing the segment, such as IFR (International Federation of Robotics), Siri (Italian Robotics and Automation Association), I-RIM (Italian Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Machines) and AIxIA, (Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence) together with Ucimu, called to an open discussion on the potential for development and application of the new technologies in all markets. IFR has chosen BI-MU to hold its annual assembly and a series of in-depth meetings dedicated to its members.

The next edition of BI-MU, being a biennial event, is expected to take place in 2026.
