Foboha US-premiere of Pre-Form cube moulds at NPE 2015, a novelty in mould construction
At NPE, Foboha will be showcasing the production of its Pre-Forms with Mu-Cell-Technology with a cube mould.
Germany – The foamed core component which generates a metallic effect after blow-moulding, without needing added metallic pigments, is known as the “opti” process and has been developed by Plastics Technology (PTI), the company says. This system will be marketed together with Foboha and Ferromatik Milacronc (FM). According to Foboha, the 2 x 4-fold cube-mould can manufacture four PET Pre-Forms with a shot weight of 124 g within one cycle of 25 s.
The mould is running on a two-component injection moulding machine, K-Tec 200 Cube with 2,000 kN clamping force, from FM at Milacron’s booth. The machine consists of a horizontal injection unit that is connected with a Mu-Cell system from Trexel. This injection unit blends a gas-nitrogen mixture with the melt. The gas expands in the mould and generates a foam. After a 90° turn of the cube, the inner foam is sheathed with a second injection unit. The thread is made from the compact outer skin at the second injection blow moulding stage. According to the company, its cube moulding technology with FM’s injection moulding platform results in an increased number of cavities in the mould to increase output. The “opti” process is used to produce bottles with environmental attributes, enabling attractive design combined with ecology. These bottles without metallic pigments allow them to be recycled as standard PET bottles, the company says.
