Among the exhibits at Hermle’s booth at Formnext are its extended models of the Performance Line for three and five-axis machining for its C 650 machining centres.

According to Hermle, the Performance Line, positioned just below the company’s High Performance Line, almost matches the latter's performance capabilities, with differences in the accessory diversity and price. The C 650 has a modified Hermle gantry-type design with a mineral-cast machine bed. The integrated, rigid clamping table can handle workpiecesof up to 3,000 kg (1,050 x 900 x 600 mm) in the 3-axis version, making it good for toolmaking, mould construction and machine construction. The swivelling rotary table of the 5-axis version can accommodate workpieces of up to 1,500 kg (Ø 900 x 600 mm), allowing for very precise machining.

The traverse path in the stainless steel-clad working area is 1,050 x 900 x 600 mm, with a vertical table clearance of 775 mm and a door aperture of 1,050 mm, which makes it suitable for simple and safe crane charging.

The C 650 has an integrated tool magazine for 42 tools. Two additional magazines with 50 or 88 extra magazine pockets are available as options. The control panel is also designed to swivel easily to the magazine-loading location, so the operator can enter the tool data directly into the tool table in the control system. The 200-mm platform, adapted to the loading point, puts the operator in an ergonomic position to load and unload tools. The C 650 has a Heidenhain TNC 640 control system as standard and the control panel has a 19-inch colour TFT touchscreen.
